TONIGHT / MEN

Long Beach State (3-3) at Pepperdine (2-2), 7, KRLA (870)--The glow of Wednesday’s upset of UCLA faded Saturday for the Waves as Utah solved their pressure defense and scored an 81-74 victory at Salt Lake City. Junior forward Jimmy Miggins is averaging 16 points and nine rebounds and freshman guard Terrance Johnson is averaging 14.5 points. The Waves are forcing 21 turnovers a game but are being outrebounded by nine. Long Beach is coming off a 71-56 loss at Texas A&M.; Forward Travis Reed, a first-team all-Big West player last season, is off to a slow start, averaging 10.8 points. Center Rudy Williams (14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds) appears to have recovered from leg injuries that kept him out last season. Pepperdine has defeated the 49ers three years in succession.

Cal State Northridge (1-3) at Wyoming (4-2), 5--The struggling Matadors have used a different starting lineup in each game. Markus Carr, who had only five points in a 99-65 loss at Howard, did not start against the Aztecs, breaking a string of 48 consecutive starts. He finished with 22 points and six assists. Donta Richardson scored 19 points for Wyoming in an 86-71 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
