Heisman Finalists Announced Today
The Downtown Athletic Club will reveal the finalists for the 2001 Heisman Trophy today.
The four or five finalists for college football’s most prestigious honor will be invited to Saturday’s award ceremony in New York. The finalist announcement was originally scheduled for Monday, but it was pushed back a day because only 15% of the 921 ballots distributed have been returned.
Rudy Riska, the executive director of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Trust, said few ballots have been returned because voters probably waited until last weekend’s games to make a decision.
“[It’s] clearly an indication that Heisman voters are taking as much on-field action as possible into consideration before casting their vote,” Riska said.
