UCLA (20-8) plays Hawaii (28-5) and top-ranked Long Beach State (30-0) plays Northern Iowa (31-1), one of the nation’s surprise teams, in another women’s volleyball regional today at the Pyramid.
Long Beach is trying to become the third undefeated team in NCAA history.
Long Beach finished 36-0 in 1998 and Nebraska finished 34-0 last year.
Keri Nishimoto, a 5-foot-5 senior setter from Redlands High, is among the 49ers’ top players.
She is a computer science major with a 3.96 grade-point average and a Rhodes scholarship nominee.
“I think it would be something really special,” Nishimoto said of the possibility of studying at Oxford University in England following her graduation this month.
“I’d love to have the international experience and broaden my horizons.”
