Jeff Krohn, Arizona State’s starting quarterback for most of two seasons, plans to leave school and transfer to another program.

Coach Dirk Koetter, who started freshman Andrew Walter ahead of Krohn in the Sun Devils’ last two games, issued a statement Monday confirming the decision and promising to support him in relocating.

“Any school would be proud to have Jeff as a member of its athletic program,” Koetter said. “Jeff knows that if he ever needs assistance, a recommendation or anything at all, he can count on me to provide those for him.”

Krohn started 19 games for the Sun Devils and led the Pac-10 in passing efficiency this season, throwing for 1,942 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Louisiana State running back LaBrandon Toefield tore a ligament in his left knee during the Southeastern Conference championship game and will miss the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.

Toefield, a sophomore, will be re-evaluated after final exams this week and will undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the next couple of weeks, LSU said Monday.
