A hiker in the foothills near Fillmore found the body of a man between the ages of 30 and 40 floating in Sespi Creek on Saturday morning, Ventura County sheriff’s officials said.

Homicide detectives at the scene were treating the case as a suspicious death. They described the man as heavyset with a 4- to 5-inch beard and long brown hair pulled back into a pony tail. He was wearing a green jacket, green shirt, faded blue pants and white tennis shoes.

Results of the preliminary investigation determined he had been dead for several weeks, officials said.
