Two people died in a fiery crash at Lake Forest Drive and Irvine Center Drive in Laguna Hills on Sunday afternoon.

The two-car collision occurred at about 4 p.m. when one of the cars ran a red light, said sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Doan.

“As far as who ran the red light, we’re not sure,” Doan said. “But we do know the two vehicles entered the intersection from different streets.”

One of the cars, a Ford Thunderbird with three adults inside, was southbound on Irvine Center Drive, Doan said.

The other, a Honda Odyssey, was heading west on Lake Forest Drive and was driven by a woman with her 5-year-old and a month-old children.

“The Odyssey broadsided the T-Bird, and the T-Bird caught fire,” Doan said. The driver and one passenger were unable to escape, and perished in the blaze. A third occupant was able to escape.

Authorities would not release any names Sunday night. Doan said the four survivors were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, he said.
