Loara Clips Kennedy, Claims Empire Title

Bryce Sheldon made six three-pointers in seven attempts to lead Loara to a 64-50 victory over Kennedy on Wednesday night, clinching the Empire League boys’ basketball championship for the host Saxons.

Sheldon finished with 25 points for Loara (20-5, 9-0), which won the title for the third time in four years.

Ike Njoku had 13 points for Kennedy (13-12, 3-6).

In another Empire League game:

El Dorado 69, Katella 51--David Patten scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds for El Dorado (21-4, 7-2), which clinched second place.

In the Golden West League:

No. 7 Ocean View 85, Saddleback 37--Marques Crane had 33 points and 13 rebounds and Matt Hatch had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Seahawks (20-6, 8-0).

In the Orange League:

Savanna 69, Magnolia 66--Nawid Wadood made a key free throw late in the game for Savanna (10-15, 4-5), then Vince Bryant missed a desperation three-point attempt for Magnolia (13-12, 5-4).

Wadood and Armando Taylor had 18 points each for the Rebels to help offset 38 points from Magnolia’s Geoffrey Clayton.

In the Sea View League:

No. 5 Woodbridge 67, Aliso Niguel 50--Host Woodbridge (21-4, 7-0) outscored Aliso Niguel, 30-13, in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game.

Woodbridge’s Danny Lambert scored 14 of his 25 points in the final quarter.

In the Serra League:

No. 2 Santa Margarita 85, Servite 25--R.J. Socci had 16 points and Brandon Rohe had 15 for Santa Margarita (21-4, 4-2).

In Pacific Coast League girls’ water polo:

No. 9 Corona del Mar 16, Costa Mesa 2--Danielle Carlson had six goals and Christina Hewko had four for visiting Corona del Mar (15-11, 4-1).

No. 8 Laguna Beach 20, Northwood 2--Laura Case, Teresa Codini and Tina Codini each scored five goals to lead host Laguna Beach (20-6, 4-1).

In the Sea View League:

No. 7 Irvine 7, Woodbridge 3--Sarah Hamilton had three goals for Irvine (13-12, 3-1), which finished second in the league behind Newport Harbor.
