Brandon Armstrong scored 26 points, including eight down the stretch, leading Pepperdine to a 67-60 victory over San Diego on Thursday night at San Diego.
Pepperdine went to Armstrong on nearly every possession in the final five minutes, and the 6-foot-4 guard delivered. Armstrong made a key off-balance, 12-foot shot with 46.8 seconds left after San Diego had cut the margin to 62-59.
Pepperdine (16-6, 8-1 in the West Coast Conference) made all four of its free throws in the final 27.6 seconds to hold off the Toreros.
The Waves, rebounding from their home loss Saturday to Gonzaga in a first-place showdown, won their sixth consecutive road game.
San Diego (12-10, 4-5) jumped out to a 14-5 lead near the midway point of the first half while holding Pepperdine to three-of-14 shooting.
But the Waves rebounded behind Armstrong. After being held to two field goals, Armstrong scored eight points in the final 1:13 of the half, including two three-point baskets and a jump shot with three seconds left to give Pepperdine a 29-27 halftime lead.
Craig Lewis scored 13 points and Kelvin Gibbs added 11 for Pepperdine.
Andre Laws led San Diego with 15 points and Cameron Rigby contributed 13.
