Titans Get 2-1 Victory at Baylor
Jon Smith pitched eight innings, giving up a run on seven hits and striking out six, and Kirk Saarloos pitched a perfect ninth as Cal State Fullerton edged Baylor, 2-1, Friday at Waco, Texas.
Smith, who recorded all his strikeouts in the first four innings, earned his first victory and Saarloos got his initial save for the Titans (2-4).
Outfielder Chris Stringfellow and second baseman David Bacani had consecutive run-scoring singles in the fifth inning for Fullerton, which overcame an early deficit after Baylor (3-2) scored in the second inning on David Murphy’s RBI triple.
Bacani had three hits and Stringfellow had two for the Titans, who face the Bears in the second game of a three-game series today.
