New Storm Expected to Hit Tonight

Rain and snow are expected to return to Southern California this weekend, but forecasters say neither will be as heavy as earlier this week.

The new storm is expected to arrive late tonight, with intermittent rain in the coastal valleys and snow above 7,000 feet in the Tehachapi, San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains. Forecasters say scattered rain and snow showers should continue through Sunday and possibly into Monday.

After a break Tuesday and Wednesday, more rain and snow are expected Thursday.

The powerful winter storm earlier this week raised the downtown Los Angeles rainfall total for the season, which runs from July 1 through June 30, to 11.29 inches. That’s about three times as much as this time last year and more than the normal season’s total for the date, which is 9.48 inches.
