BOYS’ BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK

An elite crop of Ventura County small-school basketball players might be among the best the region has produced in recent years, according to some coaches.

A starting five of Chris Saunders of St. Bonaventure at small forward, Jason Adams of Oak Park at power forward, Albert Soria of Santa Clara at point guard, Ryan Frutos of Santa Paula at shooting guard and either centers Wade DeSmidt of St. Bonaventure or Jeremy Murphy of Oak Park.

“That’s not bad, I’ll take that team,” St. Bonaventure Coach Gil Kim said. “You got offense like crazy, but it’s a good defensive group, too. It’s an above average group for the county.”
