* Brandon Armstrong and Kelvin Gibbs of Pepperdine were selected to the All-West Coast Conference men’s team for the second consecutive season.

Armstrong, a junior guard, led the conference in scoring, averaging 22.0 points. Gibbs, a senior forward, led the conference at 8.1 rebounds per game and averaged 14.1 points.

Senior forward David Lalazarian was an honorable-mention choice for the Waves, who finished second in the conference with a 12-2 record, 20-7 overall.

Forward Casey Calvary of conference-champion Gonzaga was chosen player of the year.

* Sophomore Damaris Hinojosa of Pepperdine was chosen to the All-WCC women’s team for the second season in a row.

Hinojosa, from Moorpark High, helped the Waves to a 20-9 record by leading the team with 14.5 points and 3.6 assists per game. Senior forward Nesha Thomas was selected defensive player of the year.

Senior guard Rasheeda Clark and senior forward Nadja Morgan were honorable-mention choices.

Center Jermisha Dosty of conference co-champion St. Mary’s was selected player of the year.

* Tryouts for 15- and 16-year-olds interested in playing for the Los Angeles boys’ team in the Maccabi Youth Games this summer will be held March 11 at 9 a.m. at Montclair Prep.

CROSS-COUNTRY

* Laura Jakosky of Agoura High, winner of the 1998 Southern Section Division II title and runner-up in 1999 and 2000, has committed to Arkansas.

Jakosky, a two-time Marmonte League champion, made recruiting trips to Duke, Arizona, Arizona State and Arkansas.

She is the defending Division II champion in the 3,200 meters and has run 10:48.15 in that event.

BASEBALL
