David Gilbert Garcia; Oxnard School Bus Driver

David Gilbert Garcia, a school bus driver, died Dec. 30 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. He was 41.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1959, in Edinburg, Texas, and was a 35-year resident of Ventura County.

Garcia attended local schools and graduated from Channel Islands High School in 1978. Three years later, he graduated from Oxnard College.

For the past 12 years he had been employed by the Rio School District in Oxnard.

Garcia was a member of the Ventura County Referee Assn. and a Boys & Girls Club athletic coach. He also coached baseball teams at Channel Islands High School and Oxnard College.

His other interests included karaoke, playing baseball, fishing, songwriting and listening to “golden oldies.”

He is survived by his father, Daniel Garcia; a sister, Eva Garcia of Oxnard; a half brother, Juan Trevino of Texas; a half sister, Annette Garcia; and a stepsister, Debra Navarro of Oxnard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Hilaria Garcia, and a brother, Ruben Garcia.

A Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at Santa Clara Catholic Church, with burial at Santa Clara Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Camino del Sol Memorial Center and Funeral Home in Oxnard.
