Animal Services to Hold Public Hearing

Seeking the public’s opinion on how to spend more than $150 million in bond money, Los Angeles Animal Services will hold a hearing at Cal State Northridge on Monday.

“We want to know what people think, we want their input,” department spokeswoman Jackie David said.

In November, voters approved Proposition F, a $532-million city bond measure that will provide funds for new fire stations, animal shelters and emergency operations facilities. Animal Services will receive $154.1 million.

The money will be used to replace an animal shelter in North Hollywood, build two shelters in the northeast San Fernando Valley and renovate a shelter in Chatsworth, among other things.

Citywide, it will also help pay for more kennel space, create more spay and neuter clinics and increase adoption clinics.

Monday’s hearing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Grand Salon of the CSUN Student Union, 18111 Nordhoff St.

There will be a free dog training demonstration at 4:30 p.m., but no pets will be allowed.
