Crespi Voted Out of Mission League

Crespi High will move from the Mission League in football to a new league that will include Bosco Tech, Cathedral, St. Bernard, Serra and Bishop Montgomery in a proposal approved Thursday by the Catholic Athletic Assn.

Crespi officials were not pleased with the proposal passed on a vote of 15-13. Alemany and Harvard-Westlake will join St. Francis, Notre Dame, Chaminade and St. Paul in the revamped Mission League for football.

The leagues approved Thursday will last for four years and take effect in the 2002 season.

Alemany has been competing in the Division I Del Rey League, with Harvard-Westlake in the Division VII Angelus League. Crespi was in the Division III Mission League and will join a league that projects to be Division VII after seasons of 0-10 and 1-9.

Principal David Doyle said he plans to appeal to the Southern Section while hoping to persuade Harvard-Westlake to switch leagues with the Celts.

Another league approved for football includes Loyola, St. John Bosco, Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, Bishop Amat and Servite.
