SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP
Loyola Marymount 62, San Diego 59--Sean Mollins’ 16-foot jumper with 17 seconds left gave the Lions the lead and Eurskine Robinson’s two free throws with five seconds clinched the victory over the Toreros in a WCC opener at Gersten Pavilion.
Loyola (5-9) ended a conference losing streak at 15 games. The victory also was gratifying because the Lions lost at home to San Diego by 44 points last season.
Loyola’s Elton Mashack scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and Robinson made six consecutive free throws in the final 3:10 to finish with 11. Robert Davis had 13 points for the Lions.
San Diego (8-6, 0-1), which had been averaging 71 points, was led by Tyler Field’s 13 points.
