UC Irvine 80, UC Santa Barbara 56--On a night when red-hot guard Jerry Green didn’t catch fire as fast as usual, Irvine had some other players to get the job done in the Big West Conference victory at the Bren Center.

Freshman Adam Parada, a 7-foot center, had 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for Irvine (11-2, 3-0). Senior guard Malachi Edmond had 12 points and five rebounds and senior swingman Sean Jackson finished with 11 points. Irvine, which is off to its best start in 20 years, won for the seventh consecutive time.

Forward Mark Hull led Santa Barbara (5-8, 2-1) with 14 points, 11 in the first half.

Green finished with 23 points and seven assists. He made eight of nine free throws.

Santa Barbara made five of its first eight shots to lead 13-10, on Hull’s basket with 14:14 left to play in the first half.
