T.J. Gets the Honor, Readers Want Recount
Re: T.J. Simers being named California’s best sportswriter: Apparently the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Assn. has gone the way of the Oscars, the Emmys, and the Grammys; that is to say that the more bizarre and offensive the nominee, the more likely he/she is to win. What is their award called anyway, the Slammy?

Congratulations to T.J. Simers. His in-your-face, politically incorrect style is great reading. He reflects the thinking of many of us who enjoy sports, but are not fans of any one team or individual.

Listen, I can take a joke as well as the next guy. I too chuckle when I read your stories about the Clippers getting better, or Rick Pitino wanting to coach at UNLV. But enough is enough. T.J. Simers being elected California sportswriter of the year? I’m not laughing. I guess Bill Plaschke wasn’t on the ballot? Get serious.
