Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Crash

An Oxnard man was killed late Saturday when his truck struck a tree, hit a light pole and rolled over.

Jose Luis Guiterrez, 39, was driving north on Statham Boulevard near Fiske Place shortly after 11 p.m., when he lost control of his pickup, officials said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and an investigation is ongoing to determine if drugs or alcohol played any role in the accident, coroner’s officials said.

A passenger was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Neither Guiterrez nor his passenger were wearing seat belts, police said.
