Francis R. Lewinski; Former Grocery Worker

Francis Richard “Frank” Lewinski, a former grocery worker, died Tuesday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. He was 65.

He was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Hamtramck, Mich., where he grew up and attended school. He graduated in 1953 from Hamtramck High School, where he met his future wife, Joanne Matiyow.

In 1960, the couple and their young family followed lifelong friend Richard Talik to California. Four years later, the Lewinskis settled in Simi Valley, where the family still resides.

Lewinski worked for Certified Grocers of California for 33 years before retiring.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael; daughters Victoria Russo, Kathryn Bois, Margaret Chamberlain and Teresa Miller, and 17 grandchildren, all of Ventura County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary, which is handling the arrangements.

A funeral Mass is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Simi Valley. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley.
