From Times Wire Reports

Firefighters gained ground on two blazes that burned at least two structures in eastern Shasta County.

The smaller one, known as the Hat Fire, charred 75 acres and was contained by midday Sunday, said Walt Malena, a dispatcher at the Susanville Interagency Fire Center. About 50 homes in nearby Old Station were evacuated Saturday afternoon, but residents were allowed to return home that evening.

More than 1,250 firefighters continued to battle the Powerhouse Fire near the town of Big Bend late Sunday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported. The fire was 95% contained by Sunday night.
