Jennie Lee of Huntington Beach has launched her summer in impressive style.

Lee, 14, who six days ago finished fourth in the American Junior Golf Assn.’s Ashworth Junior Classic at Quail Ranch, shot a second-round 71 Wednesday at Cimarron Golf Club in Cathedral City and won the AJGA Compaq Junior All-Star Classic.

Lee, who will be a freshman at Edison High in the fall, shot a career-best six-under 65 Tuesday in the opening round. Her 136 total was four shots better than runner-up Sommer Scholl of Riverside. It is the first AJGA victory for Lee, who finished seven strokes behind Allison Martin of Bakersfield the week before.

She birdied the final three holes Wednesday to fend off a charge by Scholl, who closed with a 69.

“I just tried to make par and then the birdies came and I started sticking shots and making my shots,” Lee said.
