VS. HOUSTON, 7, CH. 9

Site--Selland Arena, Fresno.

Radio--KMPC (1540).

Records--Avengers 2-5, ThunderBears 2-6.

Record vs. ThunderBears--0-1.

Update--Todd Marinovich returns to the active roster after serving a two-game suspension following ejections in consecutive games. But this is now Erik Wilhelm’s team since the rookie quarterback has directed the Avengers to consecutive victories over Oklahoma and Western Division leader San Jose after an 0-5 start. “It’s his ship to guide,” Avenger Coach Robert Lyles said of Wilhelm. “I’ve told him just go out and perform, and don’t worry about looking over your shoulder.” In the two wins, Wilhelm has passed for 446 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. The Avengers are eager for a rematch with the ThunderBears, who dealt them a 58-48 defeat at Staples Center on April 19. Since then Houston has lost five of its last six and three in a row. The ThunderBears lost a key player when offensive specialist Ben Bronson, the team’s all-time leading receiver (3,337 yards), broke his right tibia May 18. Offensive specialist Terence Davis has picked up the slack with 50 receptions for 655 yards and 11 touchdowns. This will be the fourth game at a neutral site for Houston, which does not have a home stadium this season.
