Hart’s Dean Headed to Auburn

Sara Dean of Hart High, a Times All-Valley softball catcher, has accepted a scholarship to Auburn.

Dean batted .373 with 15 runs batted in last season.

* Pitcher Meredith Cervenka of Crescenta Valley High, catcher Christina Enea of El Camino Real and infielder Sheridan Fowler of Thousand Oaks have been named to Student Sports magazine’s preseason All-American team.

FOOTBALL

* Mark Pomerantz, coach at Van Nuys since 1995, has resigned.

The school is switching to year-round schedule this summer and Pomerantz asked to transfer, according to Assistant Principal Jack Molina.

Efrim Martinez, the freshman-sophomore coach, is a candidate to replace Pomerantz.

BASEBALL

* A television show previewing high school teams in the City Section airs Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on KLCS, Channel 58, the Los Angeles Board of Education station.

Coaches Manny Alvarado of Kennedy, Ron Kasparian of Westchester and Scott Pearson of Roosevelt provide analysis of the City’s top teams, along with columnist Eric Sondheimer of The Times.

BASKETBALL

* Nicholas Curtis of Oxnard High has been selected Pacific View League boys’ player of the year.

Curtis, a 6-foot-8 center who has committed to USC, averaged 20 points and 14.7 rebounds.

* Krystal Clay of Grant High and Richelle Sherman of North Hollywood were selected co-most valuable players of the Sunset Six League.
