Channel Islands Coach Al Tarazon hasn’t had to use his bullpen after four games.

Peter Reveles (1-1), Mike Garcia (0-1) and Mitchell Lara (1-0) have kept Tarazon from bringing the hook.

Reveles has 21 strikeouts and five walks in 14 innings.

“I say, ‘Gimme what you got,’ ” Tarazon said. “A guy in high school is only going to throw once a week. I’m not a big pitch-count guy. I trust the kids.”

Junior Alex Merricks of Oxnard is living up to his cousins’ legacy.

Charles Merricks, who played at Channel Islands and UCLA, and his brother, Matt Merricks, who graduated from Oxnard last season and signed with the Atlanta Braves, are pitching in the minor leagues.

Alex, whose fastball is his best pitch, is 1-1. He threw a one-hitter Friday against Palisades, striking out 14.
