Gunshots were fired at a vehicle carrying three teenagers Tuesday morning on the Ventura Freeway in what police are calling a case of road rage.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which began in east Ventura about 9 a.m.

Police said the driver of a silver Daewoo sedan followed three Ventura teenagers in a red Jeep onto southbound lanes of the freeway.

As the Jeep passed the Johnson Drive exit, three shots were fired from the sedan, puncturing the right rear tire of the Jeep.

“At this time, we have no idea what caused the incident,” Ventura Police Lt. Carl Handy said. “It’s possible it could be a gang-related incident.”

Police declined to identify the teenagers in the Jeep for their safety. The suspects were described as three males and one female, about 19 years old.

Authorities ask that anyone with information on the crime call the Ventura Police Department at 339-4400.
