* Lauren Sargent of Buena High has committed to UC San Diego.
SOCCER
* Maytal Shvartz, who led the El Camino Real High girls’ soccer team to the City Championship, has been selected City player of the year.
Joining her as All-City selections are her sister, Mimi Shvartz, and Kori McLaughlin of El Camino Real, Tricia Arosemena and Lindsey Redlin of Chatsworth, Krystal Bernal of Kennedy, Jessie Steinberg and Hypatia Runcie of Granada Hills and Angela Veliz of Cleveland.
Lizette Garcia of Poly was chosen player of the year on the All-Invitational team.
SWIMMING
* Birmingham High will name its refurbished pool in honor of former coach Nick Rodionoff on April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
Rodionoff coached at Birmingham from 1963-97, guiding the Patriots to 15 City boys’ championships and four girls’ titles. He is coaching the women’s swim team at Pepperdine.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
* Tereza Simonyan, a sophomore at Cal State Northridge, wasnamed Big Sky Conference women’s player of the week for March 11-17.
