* TV: USA (today-Friday, noon-6 p.m., delayed, may be live on some satellite systems) and NBC (Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.).
* Last year: Hal Sutton led wire-to-wire in a two-stroke victory over Tiger Woods. Sutton also won the 1983 tournament.
* Last week: Woods won for the first time in six events this year, retaining his Bay Hill Invitational title with a one-stroke victory over Phil Mickelson.
* Notes: 1999 Players champion David Duval walked off the course during a practice round Wednesday because of a sore right wrist and is unsure if he’ll make his first-round tee time today. . . . Lee Westwood says he’s ready to leave “on the next flight available” if he gets word his wife is delivering their first child at home in England. . . . Woods won the first of his record three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles in 1994 at the TPC at Sawgrass. . . . The tournament, first played in 1974 at the Atlanta Country Club, is in its 20th year at the Pete Dye-designed TPC at Sawgrass. . . . Greg Norman set the tournament record of 24-under 264 in 1994. He matched Fred Couples’ 1992 course record with a 63 in the first round and finished with three 67s. Norman tied for fourth at Bay Hill in his first tour start of the year. . . . The BellSouth Classic is next week, followed by the Masters. . . . No one has won the Players and the Masters in the same year.

* Last year: Gil Morgan won the first of three 2000 titles, leading wire-to-wire in a four-stroke victory over Larry Nelson.
* Last week: Hale Irwin broke a tie with Lee Trevino for the tour’s career victory lead, winning the Siebel Classic in San Jose for his 30th title.
* Notes: Jack Nicklaus tied for fourth in San Jose, his best finish since tying for second in the 1997 PGA Seniors Championship. . . . Japan’s Isao Aoki shot a tour-record 60 in his 1997 victory. . . . The Legends of Golf team event is next week in St. Augustine, Fla.
