Servite Beats Artesia on Brown’s Homer

Jeff Brown hit a two-run home run with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday to give host Servite a 10-8 baseball victory over Lakewood Artesia.

Brown also had a two-run single to help Servite (9-10-1) build a 6-0 lead, which it relinquished when Artesia scored seven runs in the sixth.

The Friars scored twice in the bottom of the sixth before Artesia tied it in the seventh. Pete Eastman had three doubles, an RBI and a run for Servite.

In another nonleague game:

No. 2 Mater Dei 12, Temecula Valley 3--C.J. Cook had a home run, double, single, three RBIs and scored three runs for visiting Mater Dei (19-3).

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 8, Newport Harbor 3--Dan Beuchat had a home run and three RBIs for host Irvine (16-6, 9-4).

In South Coast League softball:

Dana Hills 5, San Clemente 1--Brittany Anzlovar singled in the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth for visiting Dana Hills (14-8, 4-1).

In Century League boys’ tennis:

Canyon 15, Orange 3--Freshman Ryan Tang of Canyon (15-3, 8-0) swept at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. Orange is 6-12, 2-7.

In Golden West League boys’ volleyball:

Tustin 3, Saddleback 0--Andrew Rifkin had 22 kills for visiting Tustin (12-3, 6-1), which won, 15-9, 15-12, 15-11, and clinched at least a tie for first place.
