A La Habra park will be renamed Friday in honor of Michael Anthony Osornio, a local police officer killed in the line of duty.

Osornio, 26, died Oct. 31, 1994, after his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver who ran a red light at 60 mph. The driver, Marco Villegas Ramirez of La Mirada, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in state prison.

Hacienda Park at Whittier Boulevard and Hacienda Road will be renamed Osornio Park at the 4 p.m. dedication ceremony. Mayor G. Steve Simonian, several La Habra police officers, and Osornio’s friends and family are expected to attend.
