Becky Bracelin, a 5-foot-10 guard from City Christian High in Portland, Ore., has signed with The Master’s College, Coach Ken Sugarman said.

Bracelin helped City Christian go 23-0 in the regular season before finishing fifth in the state 2-A tournament and was selected division player of the year after averaging 19.4 points.

Fonda Wilson, Campbell Hall’s girls’ coach the last three seasons, will not return next season. The school is seeking a replacement.

Football

St. Francis High has begun replacing its grass field with Field Turf, the same surface used at Nebraska and Washington.

The artificial surface reputedly gives players the feeling of playing on grass. It should be completed in time for summer workouts, Coach Jim Bonds said.

Golf

Kyle Dowden, a 15-year-old sophomore at Camarillo High, won medalist honors among 102 golfers and qualified for the California Amateur tournament with a two-under-par 70 Thursday at the SCGA Members Club in Murietta.

Dowden was the youngest qualifier last year but failed to advance to match play. He will be among 120 golfers who will play two rounds on June 18-19, with the low 64 advancing to match play June 20-23 at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Honors

Cal State Los Angeles third baseman Jay Caliguiri, a junior from Camarillo High, has been selected All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. Caliguiri led the league with 14 home runs and a .740 slugging percentage. He batted .393 while driving in 33 runs and scoring 44 times.

Track and Field

Emily Forsythe of Crescenta Valley High has signed with Long Beach State, and classmates Mike Beerer and Amber Nefas signed with UC Irvine.

Forsythe finished fourth in the girls’ high jump in the Southern Section Division I finals last year and has a career best of 5-8.

Beerer placed seventh in the boys’ shotput in the Division I finals last year and has a best of 58-4 1/2.

Nefas ran a career best of 57.80 to win the girls’ 400 meters in the Pacific League finals last week.

Robert Kubler of Crespi, seventh in the state Division IV cross-country final in November, will try to walk on to the UCLA cross-country and track programs.

Kubler, third in the 3,200 in the Southern Section Division III track championships last year, has bests of 4:19.25 in the 1,600 and 9:18.87 in the 3,200.

Volleyball

Nick Manghelli and Robin Pearce of Village Christian have committed to Rutgers.

Manghelli, a 6-2 outside hitter, is a two-time All-Alpha League selection.

Pearce, a 5-8 outside hitter, helped the girls’ team reach the Southern Section Division IV-AA semifinals and was All-Alpha League last season.
