Montclair Prep’s Southern Section Division V playoff opener against Cerritos Valley Christian at Franklin Field has been switched to Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

The West Valley Samba 17-and-under boys’ team defeated the Orange County Slammers, 3-1, in the final of the Snickers National Cup’s Southern California regional tournament Saturday in San Bernardino.

Willie Sims of Reseda High scored two goals and Jason Lara of El Camino Real had one for the Samba.

Motorsports

Chris Carmody of Valencia won the 30-lap Rotax-Max 125 nonshifter class and Darren Elliott of Canyon Country was second in the 30-lap Pro 125 Shifter class go-kart race Sunday in the opening round of the Stars of Tomorrow series at Las Vegas Karting Center.

The Stars of Tomorrow, founded in 2000 by CART Fed/Ex Championship Series driver Bryan Herta of Valencia to identify up-and-coming racers, awards first- and second-place drivers in the series a Skip Barber Three Day Racing School and a test in a champ car owned by Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal. The winner of the Pro 125 Shifter class also will compete one season in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship Series in 2002.

The next round of the four-race series is July 6-8 in the U.S. Shifter Nationals at the Oklahoma Motorsports Complex in Norman, Okla.
