Shooting victim--A story Tuesday about a Newport Beach man shot last week outside a Costa Mesa fast-food restaurant incorrectly reported that Miroslav Maric had died. Maric was being kept on a life-support system pending the arrival of relatives from Yugoslavia, a spokeswoman for Western Medical Center-Santa Ana said Tuesday. Police on Tuesday said the suspect in the shooting now is being held on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Lt. Dale Birney of the Costa Mesa Police Department said Maric, who was being treated at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, was removed from life support at 11:15 a.m. Monday.

Police are still investigating the incident, Birney said. Witnesses told investigators that Dokovic, 42, was a passenger in Maric’s Mercedes-Benz SL convertible when a struggle ensued and shots were fired. When police arrived, they arrested Dokovic. Witnesses said the officers found a handgun on top of the trunk lid.

Dokovic complained of chest pains and was treated at a nearby hospital before being transported to jail.
