Division I
Valley View 2, Highland 0--Nichole Rawson threw a no-hitter for Highland (16-13), but a throwing error led to two unearned runs in the fourth inning at Valley View (17-11).
Valencia 3, Righetti 1--Lauren Watson’s run-scoring triple and Danyale Peterson’s run-scoring single in the ninth lifted Valencia (25-4) at Righetti (21-8).
Division II
Thousand Oaks 5, Mira Costa 0--Following Coach Gary Walin’s game plan worked wonders for Thousand Oaks at Mira Costa.
“We knew [Mira Costa pitcher Samantha Lavino] threw hard and we wanted to put the ball in play and make them make some plays,” Walin said.
The Lancers (23-5) had 10 hits off Lavino (15-4), who this season pitched seven no-hitters, including four perfect games. The junior pitched a perfect game in a 5-0 first-round victory over Arroyo on Friday.
With two out in the third inning, Sheridan Fowler beat out a bunt and Andi Keesling chopped a grounder over third baseman Lauren Haney for a single.
Michelle Spencer followed with a single to left field, scoring Fowler and moving Keesling to third. Keesling scored on a bad pickoff throw by catcher Arron Layns.
Nicole Angelo (18-4) pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight. .
Thousand Oaks will play Don Lugo in a quarterfinal on Thursday.
