Cougars Advance to Semifinals

Capistrano Valley and host Santa Monica split their 18 sets, but the Cougars won the match on games, 83-80, in a Southern Section Division I second-round boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Santa Monica.
Robbie Lamour, Logan Johnson and Derrick Klunchoo won their final-round singles sets, pulling Capistrano Valley (18-0) even, 9-9.
The Cougars advanced to play second-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula.
In another Division I matches:
Los Alamitos 14, Chino Hills Ayala 4--Michael Obradovitch and Jason Wood only lost five games and swept their doubles sets for top-seeded Los Alamitos (19-2), which advanced to play Arcadia in the semifinals
In Division II:
Woodbridge 15, Valencia 3--Brett Van Linge, Eric Oijala and Paul Strozier swept as the second-seeded Warriors (17-5) won all nine singles’ matches, losing only 11 games. Woodbridge advanced to play third-seeded Troy.
Troy 10, L.A. Loyola 8--Jeffrey Das swept in singles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, and Michael Wang and Edwin Mendoza swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, for Troy (23-3).
Neil Patel and Eugene Lee also keyed the Highlanders with two 6-4 victories in No. 3 doubles.
Sunny Hills 10, Santa Barbara 8--Fourth-seeded Sunny Hills won eight of nine sets in singles to get the victory. Sophomore Kevin Lee swept in singles, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 and freshman Gregory Sturman swept, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2, for the Lancers, who play Beverly Hills in the semifinals.
