Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 13, La Canada St. Francis 10--Nick Folk kicked a game-winning 36-yard field goal with 11 seconds left, capping a frenzied fourth quarter in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame’s Louie Procopio blocked a St. Francis punt and Notre Dame took over near midfield with 3:40 left to play, setting up the game-winning field goal.
St. Francis (5-4, 2-1), which led, 3-0, at halftime, tied the score at 10 on a nine-yard touchdown run by Joe Orlandini with 7:18 left to play.
On Notre Dame’s next play from scrimmage, quarterback Phil Beckman fumbled the pitch on an option and Kenny Patton recovered for St. Francis with 7:02 left. Notre Dame held St. Francis and forced the punt that led to the game-winning field goal.
The victory assures Notre Dame (8-0, 2-0) at least a tie for the league title.
