Taylor Retires From Yucaipa Football Job

Share

Yucaipa High football Coach Jim Taylor, 56, has stepped down after 25 seasons--the longest tenure at the same school in San Bernardino County history--but will remain as athletic director, a job he has had since 1975.

Taylor (151-121-4) is fifth on the county’s all-time victory list, trailing Dick Bruich (Fontana), Chuck Pettersen (Cajon and Pacific), John Monger (Don Lugo and Chino) and Tom Hoak (Eisenhower).

Yucaipa won seven league championships during Taylor’s time on the job, reaching Southern Section championship games in 1984 and ’97.

He told the team of his decision Friday, after a 41-7 Division V playoff loss to Riverside Arlington ended a 3-8 season.

A successor has not been named.
