A Crenshaw High boys’ basketball player was shot and killed Monday evening in a residential area of Inglewood, according to reports from the Inglewood Police Dept. and Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Senior Andre Morgan, 18, was found face down on a sidewalk at 638 East Arbor Vitae with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to Martin Luther King Jr. General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after the shooting, coroner spokesman Scott Carrier said.

An autopsy is pending.

A suspect described as a medium-build black male between the age of 28-32 was spotted fleeing the scene, Inglewood Police Lt. Alex Perez said. The suspect, wearing a black stocking cap, black pants and a black jacket, may have fled in a dark brown, four-door compact car that resembled a Ford Tempo.

There are no known motives in the shooting, Lt. Perez said.

Crenshaw, No. 14 in The Times’ preseason rankings, lost to Clovis, 106-100, Wednesday night in the Clovis West tournament. Crenshaw officials declined to comment, and Cougar Coach Willie West could not be reached for comment.
