One day after going to practice with headphones but no helmet, New England wide receiver Terry Glenn was suspended Thursday for one game by Coach Bill Belichick.

“You have to ask him,” Belichick said when asked if Glenn will rejoin the Patriots on Monday after the suspension ends.

Glenn wasn’t available to answer that question and “will be off the premises until next week,” Belichick said.

Glenn has played in one game this season, missing the first four because of an NFL suspension and the last six with a hamstring injury.

Thursday’s suspension is “not injury-related. It’s a disciplinary matter” resulting from developments Wednesday, Belichick said. He gave no other details, although Glenn did not work out with the full squad.

The Detroit Lions agreed to pay the city of Pontiac $27.2 million under a deal that will allow the team to break its 30-year Silverdome lease.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Fred Mester said the Lions will pay the city $27.2 million, payable within one month, to get out of the lease that he had previously ruled ends in 2005.

The Lions plan to open the 2002 season at Ford Field, a $315-million stadium under construction in downtown Detroit.

Buffalo Bill quarterback Rob Johnson said that he probably won’t play another game this season, leaving his future with the team in question.

Johnson spoke to reporters for the first time since breaking his collarbone against New England on Nov. 11. He has one year left on his contract, but it represents an $11.2-million salary cap hit, which the Bills cannot afford.

“Sleeping’s the toughest thing,” Johnson said about the injury. “But there’s not much you can do for a broken collarbone, so it’s getting better. But I imagine I am out for the year.”

Mike Riley said that he’s committed to remaining coach of the San Diego Chargers despite a slump that’s dropped them from the top of the AFC to near the bottom of their division.

Riley denied a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune that he is at the top of the list of candidates for San Diego State’s coaching job, and that the job is his if he wants it.

“I am not a candidate for that job,” Riley said. “I have not been contacted, I am not contacting anybody. I am not going to be the coach at San Diego State. I am going to coach the Chargers and we’re going to Seattle and I really don’t have one more word to add to that.”

Mobley, the Denver Bronco linebacker, was fined for grabbing the face mask of the Cowboys’ Peppi Zellner and dragging the Dallas player to the ground in a Thanksgiving Day game.

Washington’s Arrington and Philadelphia’s Thomas were fined for a play involving each other on Sunday. The Redskin linebacker retaliated after the Eagle tackle speared him when Arrington was lying on the ground.
