Toms Holds Off Charging Triplett to Win Michelob

David Toms shot a three-under-par 68 on Sunday and held off Kirk Triplett to win the Michelob Championship by one stroke at Williamsburg, Va.

It was his seventh career victory and third this year.

Toms is tied with Phil Mickelson and David Duval for second place with six victories since 1999. Only Tiger Woods, with 22, has won more.

Toms won $630,000 to move from fifth to third on the money list with more than $3.3 million in 25 events. Only Woods and Mickelson have more.

Triplett rebounded from a bogey at No. 11 with birdies at Nos. 14, 15 and 17 to finish with a 270 to Toms’ 269.

Playing steadily and confidently while Karrie Webb and Se Ri Pak faltered, Dorothy Delasin won the Samsung World Championship by four strokes at Vallejo, Calif.

Delasin shot a three-under 69 for a 277 total. Pak and Webb each had even-par 72s, finishing at 281. Delasin earned $157,000 of the $750,000 purse.

Hale Irwin shot a four-under 68 to hold off John Jacobs by three strokes and capture the Turtle Bay Championship at Kahuku, Hawaii.

Irwin finished the 54-hole event with an 11-under 205.
