The NFL on Wednesday suspended Jacksonville Jaguar receiver R. Jay Soward, a former USC standout, for another six games for a second violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Soward just completed a four-game suspension for his first violation and could have returned to the team this week. He is now eligible to return Nov. 26.

Coach Tom Coughlin fined Soward several times last season for violating team rules.

Soward was charged with disorderly conduct after being arrested at a theme park in Orlando, Fla., in the summer.

Janikowski, 23, was not arrested. It was unclear whether the Raiders, or the NFL, would take action against Janikowski.

Receiver Terry Glenn caught passes at his first practice with the New England Patriots in more than two months. Now Coach Bill Belichick must decide how soon Glenn can do the same in a game.

On Aug. 3, the NFL suspended Glenn for the first four regular-season games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Glenn left training camp without permission after learning of the suspension, prompting the Patriots to suspend him for the season. That penalty was overturned by an arbitrator.

The NFL switched the Oct. 28 game between the New York Giants and the Redskins from night to day and moved the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs from that day to the previous Thursday to avoid a conflict with the World Series.

Game 2 of the World Series is scheduled for Oct. 28.

The Sunday night game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers on Jan. 6 was switched to a 1 p.m. EST start. The Philadelphia-Tampa Bay game replaces the Cleveland-Pittsburgh game that night.
