Lemieux Finally Finds the Mark

Mario Lemieux scored his first goal this season and the Pittsburgh Penguins won for the third time in four games, defeating the Atlanta Thrashers, 4-2, Tuesday night at Atlanta.

Stephane Richer, Michal Rozsival and Kevin Stevens scored for the Penguins, who have won three of four under Coach Rick Kehoe, who replaced Ivan Hlinka on Oct. 15.

Toronto 2, Boston 0--Curtis Joseph made 30 saves at Toronto for his 33rd career shutout and first this season.

Mats Sundin scored a power-play goal and Travis Green scored into an empty net in the final seconds.

Toronto’s Tie Domi returned after completing an 11-game suspension dating to last season’s playoffs for elbowing New Jersey’s Scott Niedermayer.

Buffalo 4, San Jose 1--Rhett Warrener, Maxim Afinogenov, Tim Connolly and Vaclav Varada scored to help the host Sabres win for the fourth time in five games.

New Jersey 2, Ottawa 1--Patrik Elias scored midway through the third period to break a tie at Ottawa.

Chicago 6, Calgary 3--Kyle Calder had two goals and an assist, and the host Blackhawks stretched their unbeaten streak to five.

Craig Berube scored twice for Calgary.

Colorado 5, Carolina 1--Shjon Podein scored two goals, and Joe Sakic and Alex Tanguay each had power-play goals at Denver.

Vancouver 4, Nashville 2--Brendan Morrison had a goal and two assists as host Vancouver snapped a four-game winless streak.
