First a concussion, then bruised ribs. After getting banged around on successive weekends, Baltimore Raven quarterback Elvis Grbac might be forced to give his battered body a rest Sunday.

Backup Randall Cunningham ran the first-team offense Wednesday and could get his first start with Baltimore against Jacksonville.

Grbac did not practice and is listed as questionable.

Denver Bronco running back Terrell Davis, who had arthroscopic knee surgery five weeks ago, was surprised when told of news reports saying he may have a stress fracture in his leg and might be lost for the season.

The speculation surfaced on CNNSI.com and the Baltimore Sun, which reported that a trade between Denver and Baltimore fell through because of uncertainty about Davis’ health.

Both stories, citing unidentified NFL and Raven officials, said the Broncos were reluctant to trade backup running back Olandis Gary because they were worried Davis may not return this season.

“I’m on schedule to play this Sunday,” Davis said.

New York Jet receiver Wayne Chrebet and defensive tackle Shane Burton will sit out Sunday’s game against Carolina.

Chrebet has had migraine headaches following a hit to his head from defensive tackle Brian Young in the Jets’ 34-14 loss to St. Louis on Sunday. He had a concussion the previous week against Miami.

Burton strained his left calf against the Rams.

Dallas Cowboy quarterback Anthony Wright didn’t practice because of fluid in his right knee and Coach Dave Campo indicated Wright might not play Sunday.

Wright expected to have results of an MRI exam today. If Wright can’t play, Campo said Clint Stoerner would start ahead of Ryan Leaf.
