49ers’ Weaver Hoards Big West Honors
At Long Beach State, she’s being referred to as Ms. October.
Cheryl Weaver, a two-time All-American volleyball player, was selected Big West Conference player of the week for the third time this month.
Weaver averaged 5.89 kills per game last week in sweeps of UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton and San Diego, and top-ranked Long Beach State (18-0, 11-0 in conference play) showed no sign of slowing.
“Everyone’s playing at a high level,” Weaver said. “I don’t really get too much into [personal honors].
“I didn’t even know about two of the [past player of the week honors] until Monday. I’ll hear about that type of thing only if a teammate shows it to me. Or if my mom sees it.”
