From Times Staff Reports

A prosecutor said Tuesday he is reviewing possible criminal charges against the wife of Santa Paula’s mayor, who has been under investigation for allegedly issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

Rose Luna, who has worked at the local Department of Motor Vehicles office for 25 years, allegedly helped obtain driver’s licenses for at least eight illegal immigrants without administering proper driving tests in exchange for money, authorities said.

Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. John Vanarelli said DMV officials completed their investigation and turned their case over to him late last week. A decision on whether to file charges may take two weeks, he said.

DMV officials have declined to comment on Luna’s employment status. Luna is the wife of Mayor Ray Luna. She has not been arrested or formally charged with any crimes.
