A look at the top 10 boys’ and girls’ track and field teams in the Southland:

BOYS

1. Long Beach Poly (SS-Div. I)

Jackrabbits won 800-meter relay in Texas Relays on Saturday and placed third in final of 1,600 relay after running the best time in the state this year--3 minutes 15.56 seconds--in a Friday qualifying heat. (No. 1 last week)

2. Dominguez (SS-Div. II)

Dons are expected to battle Long Beach Poly and Woodland Hills Taft for supremacy of 400 and 1,600 relays in Arcadia Invitational on Saturday. (2)

3. Taft (City)

Junior Noah Smith will run on both relay teams in Arcadia Invitational and be one of the favorites in the 200. (3)

4. Edison (SS-Div. I)

Hurdler Denny Flanagan and pole vaulter Aaron Corbett are among favorites at Arcadia Invitational. (4)

5. Rio Mesa (SS-Div. I)

Juniors Phillip Reid and Justin Johnson notched career bests Saturday in winning 3,200 and 110 high hurdles, respectively, in Fresno Relays. (6)

6. Etiwanda (SS-Div. I)

Seniors Kyle Sunderland, Thomas Hasan and D’Ornoir Flax are entered in the 800, high hurdles and high jump, respectively, in Arcadia Invitational. (5)

7. Esperanza (SS-Div. I)

Junior shotputter Gabe Long and senior discus thrower Matt Plowman will compete against heavyweight fields in Arcadia Invitational, as will junior Mike Chavez in the 1,600. (7)

8. Walnut (SS-Div. I)

Senior Ronald Hill will compete in the 100, 200, long jump and 400 relay during evening portion of Arcadia Invitational. (8)

9. Arroyo Grande (SS-Div. I)

Throwers had field day, sweeping the top six places in the shotput and discus, to lead team to victory in San Luis Obispo County championships Saturday. (9)

Senior Jarered Morgan is favored to win the discus and contend for title in the shotput in Arcadia Invitational. (10)

GIRLS

1. Long Beach Poly (SS-Div. I)

Jackrabbits posted yearly nation-leading times of 1 minute 36.11 seconds in 800-meter relay and 3:39.80 in 1,600 relay in Texas Relays on Saturday. (No. 1 last week)

2. Riverside North (SS-Div. I)

Senior Chaunte Howard is favored to win the high jump and triple jump in Arcadia Invitational on Saturday. (2)

3. Long Beach Wilson (SS-Div. I)

Junior MacKenzie Hill will run against quality field in 300 low hurdles at Arcadia after clocking state-leading 43.82 in Pasadena Games on March 30. (3)

4. Arroyo Grande (SS-Div. I)

Junior Billie Jo Grant will meet defending state discus champion Rachael Varner of Bakersfield for first time this season in Arcadia Invitational. (4)

5. Rancho Cucamonga (SS-Div. I)

Senior Jacqueline Earls will run in 100 and 200, and in the 400 and 1,600 relays during evening portion of Arcadia Invitational. (5)

Sophomore Liza Pasciuto will run in the 1,600 and distance-medley relay at Arcadia. (6)

7. L.A. Baptist (SS-Div. IV)

Junior Allyson Felix is favored to win second consecutive Arcadia titles in 100 and 200 after running career-best 55.01 to win 400 in Oakland Relays on Saturday. (7)
