Injured Wrist Keeps Sheffield Out Again

Gary Sheffield was held out of the lineup for the third consecutive game Friday night as the Atlanta Braves’ right fielder nurses a sprained left wrist.

Sheffield, who was not available for comment, took a cortisone shot Thursday. He was hit by pitches twice at Philadelphia on April 11.

Sheffield, a former Dodger, is batting .263 with three homers and nine runs batted in. He is hitless in his last 11 at-bats.

Moises Alou, who has played in only three games for the Chicago Cubs this season, will sit out the rest of the weekend with a stiff back.... Tests to see if Houston Astro pitcher Wade Miller has disk or circulatory problems have come back negative. Miller, the Astros’ opening-day starter, was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday with neck and arm pain.... Cleveland Indian shortstop Omar Vizquel has a sore right knee and wasn’t in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins....
