Arguing With This Is a Lost Cause
As nice as it was for The Times to remember hometown hero Sunday Silence by referring to him as the legend he was, it was disappointing that the photo used above his Aug. 19 obituary was of his loss in the 1990 Hollywood Gold Cup, the final race of his career. A much more appropriate choice would have been a photo of one of his wins, including victories in three of the four most important races in America: the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Showing Sunday Silence finishing second is tantamount to using a photo of Ted Williams striking out.
