Mother, 39, Sentenced for Child Abuse
A Burbank mother was sentenced Friday to 22 years and four months in prison after pleading no contest to charges of corporal injury to a child, mayhem and assault involving her 12-year-old daughter.
Erlinda Reyes Allan, 39, was sentenced at a hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court by Judge Janice Croft. Allan’s husband, Marcus Allan, 44, pleaded no contest to criminal charges in August and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The sentencing concludes a case that began in December 2000 when the parents told officers responding to a report of child abuse at their home that the girl wasn’t present, because she was living in her mother’s native Philippines.
But an ice-cream truck driver afterward told police that he had seen the girl with a split lip earlier in the day.
Officers found the girl, bruised and malnourished, hiding near her home.
