Council OKs $2.5 Million for Shooting Victim
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The Los Angeles City Council approved $4 million in lawsuit settlements on Tuesday, including $2.5 million to a woman who lost her eye after a police officer shot her with a beanbag projectile because he mistakenly thought she was reaching for a weapon.
Annette Amoroso lost an eye in the Nov. 27, 2000, incident.
Four of the other 10 settlements approved by the council involved allegations that officers violated the civil rights of the plaintiffs. The council paid $865,000 to settle those cases.
